A short and succinct history, and it is very readable. The only negative is that there are a few factual errors. For example, the author said that the Catholic church regards the pope as the successor of Saint Paul, though even many non Catholics know the pope is the successor of Saint Peter. Also there appears to be a bias against the Church. There are repeated statements that. The Church was limiting progress. It is true that it had become a quasi political power, but in fact it was the Church that preserved much of the knowledge and history that would have otherwise been lost after the fall of Rome.
